Transient & Tempo Plugins
Transient Shapers⌗
Flux BitterSweet (Free)
- Function: Single-knob transient designer. Turning toward Bitter magnifies transients; toward Sweet reduces them. Includes Fast/Medium/Slow processing modes and M/S channel processing options.
- Application: Quick, intuitive transient control on drums, percussion, or any bus. Good starting point when you want to add or pull back attack without complex setup.
Auburn Sounds Couture (Free)
- Function: Threshold-independent transient shaper using a 2-band spectral RMS detector. Detects transients based on the rate of level change rather than a fixed threshold, making it effective on complex material like acoustic guitar and piano where not all transients exceed surrounding signal levels.
- Application: More precise than a single-knob shaper. Use when BitterSweet is too blunt — for example, smoothing out plucky guitar attack or adding consistency to acoustic drum hits. The free version includes full transient shaping; the paid version adds saturation.
Tempo-Driven Effects⌗
TAL-Filter-2 (Free)
- Function: Host-synced filter and volume modulation plugin. Supports multiple filter types, LFO-driven volume modulation (trance gate), and stereo panorama modulation, all locked to DAW tempo via MIDI NoteOn trigger.
- Application: Trance gate and rhythmic chopping effects on pads, synths, or drum rooms. Also useful for tempo-synced stereo panning to add rhythmic movement to static elements in a mix.
MeldaProduction MTremolo (Free — part of MFreeFXBundle)
- Function: Tremolo with fully editable waveform shapes and harmonics. Automatically syncs to host tempo.
- Application: Rhythmic volume modulation with more waveform control than a standard tremolo. Use when a simple sine/square tremolo isn’t enough — the editable waveform lets you dial in exactly the pulse shape you want.
