This course is an introduction to sound editing and sound design for film and linear media. We examine the place of sound in artistic and technological cinema — microphone technique, foley, field recording, ambience, and mixing — and cover the basics of sound, microphones, and analog-to-digital conversion along the way.
Lectures, readings, and film clips illustrate the language of film sound as it is practiced by directors, sound designers, and editors. You’ll work in REAPER throughout, building from live Foley performance to a five-minute sound design piece cut to picture.
