5.1 Mix
Download the project files here
Create a 5.1 mix of the film Like Lambs. I have given you all of the sound effects and dialogue. You need to first set appropriate levels, then pan them around the space using either the Channel Mapper-Downmixer or ReaSurrroundPan. If you want the sound to only come out of just one speaker, out of a set of speakers, or all the speakers at once use the Channel Mapper-Downmixer.
Atmos Mix
You will use Logic Pro X to create a Dolby Atmos mix. You have the option to choose between two projects:
Aiguille Rouge’s Bebe Grand The Film Lambs For either project, start by converting it into an Atmos mix format. Ensure that the settings are 24 bit / 48 kHz / 24 fps.
Initial Setup Set Project Audio Format:
Open Logic Pro X and go to Preferences -> Audio. Set the input/output settings to 24-bit, 48 kHz, 24 fps.
NPR Binaural Soundscapes
Task:
Listen to a selection of binaural soundscapes from the NPR archives on SoundCloud and reflect on your favorite soundscape, using the diagram on spatial impression to guide your analysis.
Instructions:
Visit the NPR Soundscapes playlist on SoundCloud. Listen to the playlist and pick your favorite recording. Explain why this recording stood out to you, using the spatial impression diagram below as a reference. Consider the following aspects from the diagram in your explanation: Source Position: How did the sound’s azimuth, distance, or elevation affect your perception of the recording?
Project 1: Mono Sound Walk
Objective Create a 1-2 minute audio-only piece that simulates a walk through a specific environment using only mono sound sources. The challenge is to create a sense of depth, movement, and spatial awareness using mono processing techniques.
Requirements Choose a specific environment for your sound walk (e.g., forest, city street, beach, spacecraft, fantasy realm). Use only mono sound sources and processing techniques. Employ various audio processing methods to create a sense of space and movement: Reverb (to simulate different spaces) Delay (to create depth and echo effects) Filtering (to mimic occlusion and distance) Volume/loudness (to indicate proximity and movement) Include at least 10 distinct sound elements in your composition.
Project 2: Binaural/Stereo
Project Overview: In this project, you will create a one-minute piece of binaural music, sound design, or narrative fiction that demonstrates their understanding of binaural and stereo recording techniques. The piece can either stand alone or accompany a visual, but the primary focus is on spatial audio and the use of stereo and binaural methods to create an immersive sound experience.
Requirements: Track 1: Stereo Recording Technique:
Use one stereo microphone recording technique that we learned in previous classes (e.
