We’ll use all we have learned so far about mixing to create a rough mix of Angels In Amplifiers song I’m Alright. You can download the project files here. Remember the steps we’ve talked about so far. Setting the project tempo, setting a mix with faders, adding eq, compression, delay and reverb. Organization Set your project tempo to 96 bpm so you can see where the recordings line up with your timeline.

Final Project

Goals: Students will develop their projects based on their own creative vision. Students will use multiple techniques to realize their vision. Students will begin to develop their own voices as artists. Create a 3-5-minute composition that you feel represents you as an artist. You will use multiple techniques that we have learned through the semester to create your work. This should include: Recording instruments or voice in the studio Using the vocal/instrument recordings in your project OR: Sampling using those recordings Effects MIDI Drums or percussion using ReaSamplomatic5000 Vital Synth If you don’t want to create a musical composition mention that in your proposal and proposal something different.

Project 1: Arranging Clips

Adapted from Will Kuhn, Ethan Hein - Electronic Music School Technical Goals Students will understand basic transport and track controls in the DAW. Students will learn how to use the browser to find clips and place them onto tracks. Students will be able to add, delete, and move clips on the timeline across multiple tracks. Creative Goals Students will gain exposure to part layering. Students will begin to explore mixing parts by adjusting volume levels.

Project 2 - Unreliable Product Ad

Technical Goals Students will learn how to record on audio tracks using a microphone. Students will edit overlapping clips in Arrangement View on multiple tracks. Students will alter audio pitch and time as needed in their project. Creative Goals Students will balance audio levels to draw attention to spoken dialogue tracks. Students will write an engaging, persuasive, and/or entertaining advertisement. Students will write a script that is easy for the listener to understand.

Project 4: Beatmaking

Create a 16 measure musical composition using these samples and one or two more of your choosing. When creating your composition gradually bring in elements and keep one thing playing the whole time. Make variations on the loops by “gluing” then “splitting” the MIDI items. Add variations: Include one instance of multi-velocity sampling. Include one instance of round-robin sampling. Use the production techniques we’ve learned so far in class to make your project sound good.
